Day 1 – From Historic Lund to Vibrant Malmö

Start your trip in Lund, a city full of history, green parks and student energy. Begin with a visit to Lund Cathedral, one of Sweden’s oldest and most impressive churches. Go inside to see the medieval clock and the beautiful crypt. Afterward, take a walk through the Botanical Garden, where flowers and trees fill the air with summer scents. Stop for coffee and a pastry at Love Coffee Roasters before exploring the charming old streets. Make sure you visit the University Library and the University Building.

For lunch, either go to Stadsparken and enjoy the best pizza I have ever eaten at Talevski or eat dumplings at Fengssons. If you prefer something more elegant, have lunch at Klostergatan Vin & Delikatess or Kyrkogatan 5 (also great restaurant tips for the evening).

In the afternoon, take the train to Malmö. It is only about 15 minutes away and the city has a completely different vibe. Begin in Gamla Väster, the old part of town with colorful houses, art galleries and cafés. Then walk to Lilla Torg, a lively square perfect for people-watching. From there, continue toward Malmöhus Castle and the surrounding parks.

Before sunset, head to Västra Hamnen, the modern waterfront area. The view over the Öresund Bridge is stunning, and you can take a swim at Scaniabadet if the weather is nice. End your day with dinner at one of Malmö’s many good restaurants. I recommend you Escama, Atmosfär, Quan or Lyran.

Day 2 – Coastal Paradise in Falsterbo & Höllviken

After breakfast on the second day, drive south to Falsterbo and Höllviken, about 40 minutes from Malmö. This area feels like Sweden’s own version of the Riviera, with white sand beaches, colorful beach huts and shallow turquoise water. Spend the day at Skanör or Falsterbo Beach, two of the most beautiful beaches in southern Sweden. The soft sand and long shoreline make it perfect for swimming, walking, or simply relaxing. If you like birds, visit the lighthouse at Falsterbo, one of Europe’s best spots for birdwatching.

For lunch, try Skanörs Fiskrögeri, where you can enjoy fresh fish straight from the sea. Another great choice is Badhytten, a stylish restaurant right on the beach that serves modern Swedish food with a view of the ocean.

If you are looking for something active, rent a board and try kite surfing in Höllviken. The water is shallow, and the conditions are ideal for beginners. Later in the afternoon, get an ice cream from Augusta Glass Höllviken and take a walk along the dunes as the sun starts to go down.

Day 3 – Storybook Streets of Ystad & Countryside Charms

On your last day, head east to Ystad, a small town known for its half-timbered houses and cobblestone streets. It feels like stepping into a storybook. Start your morning with a stroll through the old town and a visit to Ystad Abbey, one of the best-preserved monasteries in Sweden. Stop for a coffee at Söderberg & Sara, a local favorite famous for its sourdough bread and pastries. Fans of detective stories will recognize Ystad as the setting for Henning Mankell’s Wallander novels. You can join a short walking tour that visits filming locations from the series.

If you are in the mood for something special, Ystad Saltsjöbad offers both excellent dining and a beautiful spa experience by the sea.

Before leaving the region, take a short drive to the countryside. Stop at Svaneholm Castle near Skurup or Hallongården, a small raspberry farm where you can pick your own berries and try homemade jam and ice cream. It is a sweet and simple way to end your trip.
